Frequently Asked Questions

How do papers get turned in to Ms. Pomeroy and Mrs. Sambito? In 2nd grade, we do not check and remove papers from your child's Blue Communication Folders.  Students have been taught to check their folder upon arrival each morning and turn in any notes or papers to our "mailbox."  We remind students of this, however they sometimes forget. If you notice paperwork is left in the folder, simple remind your child to turn it in the next day.

What time is lunch? Our class eats lunch daily at 11:30 am.

May I come eat lunch with my child? Absolutely... as long as you are a screened volunteer.  When you arrive for lunch, please check in with Ms. Cordoza at the front desk.  You will need to make sure that you have your CCE volunteer badge.  You are welcome to wait at the round tables in the dining room until we arrive.

When does my student have P.E.? Art? Music? You can find our resource schedule inside your child's blue communication folder.  Check the legend at the bottom for clarification about the codes.  Ignore the numbers next to the letter- they simply tell us which resource teacher to go see that day.

Do the students go to recess each day? On Mondays and Wednesdays, we will go to recess for 30 minutes immediately following lunch.  On days that we are scheduled for P.E., we will not have recess.  However, on resource days that are music or art, we will try to make it outside for at least 15 minutes. Due to scheduling changes in the district, we are required to have a certain amount of instruction time for each subject. Unfortunately that does not always allow for as much free recess time as we would like.

How long do students have to take assessments? Are they all timed?
It depends on the type of assessment.  If we are testing fluency in math, we will give a certain amount of time to complete the assessment. Some assessments are read aloud and taken all together.  Other assessments are taken at each student's own pace. We try to allow enough time for all students to complete the assessment.

How do I order Scholastic Books online? First, go to this link. Sign in with your username and password.  If you have not used Scholastic before, you will need to register.  You will be asked to register or add a child. When you do this, you will link your child to a teacher. If you are asked for a class code, ours is GWLCZ. You can also search for us. You will put in all of our location information and then find Ms. Pomeroy's name. From there, you are ready to shop!

This page will be updated as other questions arise. If you have more questions, please do not hesitate to ask.  Chances are someone else has the same question :)

  1. Do the kids still have recess time at the playground each day? My child said they only had recess the first week of school but haven't had recess again. Is that really correct? If so, why not? Thanks!
